D'Ried vun der helleger Barbara (St. Barbaras speech)
As a citizen of Esch, you have already had to put up with a lot. But with this Capital of Culture, those up there in the town hall and those over there in Belval are taking it to the extreme. I have had enough. I'm fed up with this new Esch, the Esch for ever new glass towers and concrete blocks and yet ever higher rents. A city that wants to reinvent itself in order to forget what it is. I could burst. Give me that microphone.
In its Radio Art Zone contribution, Richtung22 dares an exhausting experiment. The speech of the angry resident Barbara is supposed to last 22 hours; if she gets stuck, one of her neighbours will take over. Different languages will be used, including Luxembourgish, French and Portuguese. But even if you don't understand any of these languages, the idea behind it becomes clear: Barbara is angry. Pissed off about everything that's going wrong in her city. So Barbara takes the opportunity to talk (and shout) her frustrations off her chest. Not just on the radio, but in a central public space in Esch.

Richtung22 is a young art collective from Luxembourg that has been getting upset about Luxembourg's small and big crimes and in consequence has produced satirical plays, films and actions for 12 years now. For the Capital of Culture Esch2022, Richtung22 is creating a large number of productions to portray the transformation of the city.
