Today is day 77 of Radio Art Zone. We are looking forward to hosting many visiting artists during our remaining 23 days, and are delighted about the hugely diverse programme coming up. Next week features a towering, yet extremely delicate, sound installation being created in our magnificent studio (just a teaser - read on for details). Echo Ho broadcasts a hybrid radiophonic fiction live from her garden in Cologne, featuring the contributions of guest artists from far and wide – tracing symbiotic entanglements of sowing, tending, eating, digesting and preserving in a sonic ecosystem full of sympathetic relationships for healing and reconciliation.

The Kabbalistic Tree of Life consists of 22 paths. Martha Regueiro imagines the Tree of Life as the finality of our existence, the acquisition of certain wisdom through the understanding of the world around us. To achieve this we all choose a different path, hence she offers 22 portraits of different ages, 22 life instincts, 22 different perceptions.

DinahBird and Jean-Philippe Renoult start from the resonant frequencies of St Aoustrille’s transmitting station Batiment B, following the Birth of a Signal from microphone to receiver, using archives, field recordings, mechanical murmurings, electro-magnetics, technical logs, short wave scans, generative sounds and interviews. Heidi Neilson imagines 12 orbits, beginning and ending in Esch. Each loop takes a different direction around the world and is inspired by the unique character of the path travelled – from the point of view of an orbiting body tuning into multiple radio frequencies simultaneously, listening to the sounds of the earth from the ground and into space.

For Elaine W. Ho, the challenge of this livestream is to create a translation of the ‘narrowcast’ from the materiality of the artist’s studio to a narrative space that catches up to the broad cast of the sociopolitical. These stories form an archive of maybe shouts and maybe whispers, to be triggered in the form a self-directed oral game with possible intervening players.

Ralf Schreiber and Christian Faubel create a geometric framework for a self-playing sound installation consisting of a multitude of thin branches and sticks. These form pyramid-shaped elements, with many tiny electromechanical sound machines integrated into the wooden framework which rub and scrape, making the bark of the branches audible. This live broadcast is open to the public!

The Saarbrücken based Liquid Pengiun Ensemble are two of Germany's best Hörspiel makers. Their Radio Art Zone lies underground, literally. They dig their way through soil and rock following the eternal call of gravity. Earth experts past and present are captured by their microphones along the journey. Die Sprachanteile sind auf deutsch.
